Your newsletter is one of the most pivotal parts of your entire online business strategy.
Why?
2 reasons:
Without a newsletter, your business is constantly at the mercy of the platform that you use to reach people.
With social media, it’s easy to reach tons of people.
But if you don’t have a way of collecting those peoples’ contact information, you will just cycle through viewers perpetually without building something meaningful.
So as you’re creating content consistently, it’s crucial that you also consistently move people into your newsletter.
Today I’m going to show you how I’ve gotten 200, 500, and even 1000 people to join my newsletter with one social media post.
Let’s get it:
This framework starts with your content.
Every piece of content you create on social media is an opportunity to test a new headline, hook, angle, or idea.
The key is to find out what people resonate with.
When you create content consistently, you will find that you have “outlier” posts that perform really well.
For example, if your posts usually get 100 views, these will get 1,000.
Or if your posts usually get 5,000 views, these will get 50,000.
You want to pay attention to these posts that work.
Because they’re indicating that the hook or angle you used is something that really resonates with your audience.
For example, I recently posted a thread titled “How I work 4 hours a day, and make $1M/yr”.
My threads typically only get a few likes (it’s not one of my core platforms).
But this one got over 560 likes, 33 reposts, and 30 shares.
Clearly this content resonated with my viewers.
So I took the same hook/idea, and I turned it into a newsletter, some tweets, videos, carousels, and other content formats.
Unsurprisingly, it worked extremely well on those platforms as well.
One of the most underrated tricks for growing fast on social media is simply paying attention to what works, and doing more of it.
So when something takes off, don’t ignore it.
Go all in on it.
When a content angle takes off, it’s not just a good opportunity to get more views on your content, but it’s a huge opportunity to move people to your email list.
How do you do this?
Using a lead magnet.
A “lead magnet” is simply a free resource or something of value that you give to your audience in exchange for their email address.
So take your content that worked, and go deep on it in a free lead magnet.
If you have:
→ a newsletter that gets a lot of replies
→ content that gets a lot of views
→ something you teach that gets a lot of reactions
Turn it into a lead magnet.
Recently, I created a lead magnet called the $0–$1M Creator Business Guide where I go deep on exactly the step-by-step process to make $1 Million from your content.
I already knew the hook would work because it was proven by my content.
And from this one thing, I’ve gotten hundreds of people to join my newsletter.
A lot of marketers think that because their lead magnet is free it shouldn’t give away “too much”.
Forget that.
A really good lead magnet needs to be something actually valuable.
Don’t try to just write some fluff and pass it off as something valuable. That’s the fastest way to lose trust with your audience.
Your lead magnet should be insanely good.
If you’re looking for ideas, here’s a few ways to make your lead magnet really good:
You can use a tool like Canva to build out the lead magnet and turn it into a PDF.
Personally, I like using Notion to keep it simple and give a live link to the doc (which makes it easier for me to update over time and everyone gets the updates).
At the end of the lead magnet, create a CTA and tell people where to go if they want to work with you.
You could have a few links pointing to one of your funnels or another product.
Now just build a form in a tool like ClickFunnels or ConvertKit for people to put in their email address and put a link to the freebie on the confirmation page.
Now that you have a hook that you know works.
And a lead magnet that’s proven to work.
Now it’s time to put fuel to the fire and put the whole thing to work.
Take your proven hook and go create more content with the same idea.
Make the content incredibly valuable, give away tips and tricks, share stories and other ideas.
Then at the end of your content, simply add an invitation like the following:
“If you’re a [target market] and you want to achieve [result], comment [KEYWORD] down below and I’ll send you my free [LEAD MAGNET].”
This will send a frenzy of people commenting on your content, creating more engagement and boosting it in the algorithm, so that it gets seen by more people.
People will start sharing your content with their friends because of the value you’re giving.
And most importantly, people will start joining your email list for the free value.
I’ve had single posts get hundreds of leads by doing this.
I even had one that got over a thousand comments from people who wanted my free lead magnet.
That’s the power of this strategy.
This is how I get hundreds of new people (and growing!) to join this newsletter every single month.
When you get this right, with a good hook, the right lead magnet, and a solid invitation…
You’ll find that even if you don’t have a huge following online, you can get dozens, if not hundreds, or even sometimes thousands of people to join your email list with one single social media post.
And you’ll finally stop operating at the mercy of the social media platform and own your own audience.
And when you do this consistently, each time you’ll scoop the cream off the top of your audience and bring them into your list to go deeper with you.
